Butterstone is from the Greenstone Belt of Southern Africa and is said to have formed in the Archaen period of history. It is a sedimentary rock that at some time received serpentinization from heat which gave it a green tint. Micro fossils in the form of stromatolites of blue green algae have been found in the fine laminations in this material. These specimens have been cut in semi-block type shapes and have a polished side. The average size is approximately 1” to 1 1 2” cube size. Each one comes complete in an attractive display box and a package insert with historical background details. This is a super buy!
